About the Artist

katpic When I was 10 years old, my sister and I wanted to build a display shelf for our Beanie Baby collection.  My dad helped us bring our design into reality.  It wasn’t a well-crafted piece of woodwork, as expected with 8 and 10 year-old carpenters, but we were so proud of it.  I have always loved creating and learning new skills.  Thankfully my craftspersonship has improved since that first Beanie Baby shelf!

When my husband, Ryne, and I moved to Michigan in 2013, we sold all our hand-me-down furniture in Kansas City to make the move easier.  After buying a single couch for our new home, we realized how expensive new furniture was.  My woodworking passion was reignited out of necessity, and I built our dining room table.  After that came our bed, a firewood rack, standing desk, a guest bed, entertainment center, and a full basement reno.  Out of space for any more furniture, my husband jokingly said if I built anything else I’d have to sell it.  And my business was born.  I took over the garage for my woodshop and began selling at a local boutique shop near our home.

Several years and many new tools later, we moved from Michigan to the Flint Hills of Kansas.  The change of location coincided with a big change in our family, the addition of our little girl Ember. Here, with distance being a major factor for consistent sales, I launched my website.

Fast forward a few more years and a move to Kansas City for new jobs and grad school. Now that we’ve settled into our new life here, I’m restarting by business.  I will be selling at a couple craft shows a year and will update the website to begin ecommerce options as soon as I figure our some LLC things from crossing state lines to Missouri.  Custom furniture orders and local pick-up of any product purchases are available for customers in the KC metro area.

I love using reclaimed materials in my pieces.  Burn piles, scrap yards, and garage sales are my favorite places to buy table frames and old wood.  Using these reclaimed materials also helps me keep my cost low, which gets passed on to the consumer.  I want everyone to be able to own a handcrafted piece at a Walmart price.  Due to these reclaimed materials (as well as my still-improving skills) no piece is perfect.  There might be uneven surfaces, misaligned corners, or crooked edges.  Just as in life, there is beauty in the imperfection.
